Designed by George Nelson in 1965, the Zoo Timers are a world apart from his sculptural wall clocks of the 1950s. Where those are exercises in abstraction and material precision, the Zoo Timers are hand-drawn, graphic, and unabashedly playful — characters from the animal kingdom rendered in bold multicoloured print on plywood. Omar the Owl watches the room with wide, knowing eyes — his graphic silhouette bold enough to hold a wall, his colours vivid enough to delight.
