Designed by George Nelson in 1965, the Zoo Timers are a world apart from his sculptural wall clocks of the 1950s. Where those are exercises in abstraction and material precision, the Zoo Timers are hand-drawn, graphic, and unabashedly playful — characters from the animal kingdom rendered in bold multicoloured print on plywood. Fernando the Fish brings a splash of colour and character to any wall — his fluid form and vivid hues making him as much a piece of graphic art as a timepiece.
