A Sculptural Masterpiece

The VLA61 Monarch Chair was designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1944, with only ten chairs originally produced. A pioneer of Danish modernism and known as the master of details, Lauritzen insisted that form must complement function — a philosophy particularly evident in the poetic VLA61, with its double-curved armrests, organic frame and elegant brass feet.

The chair takes its name from Lauritzen's keen interest in butterflies, inspired by the majestic monarch butterfly. In collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, the chair has been reborn with a contemporary perspective on material composition and detail. Sitting in it feels like an embrace.

Craftsmanship & Finish

Each chair is the product of hours of passionate craftsmanship. All parts are polished by hand several times, and the top rail is upholstered only once the chair is fully assembled to achieve a perfect finish. These subtleties combine to highlight the sculptural expression of Lauritzen's recreated masterpiece.
