An Experimental Blend of Materials

The CH88T Dining Chair is a fine example of Hans J. Wegner's experimental nature — an artful fusion of wood and steel that epitomises his playful approach to design and materials. Although known throughout his career for his mastery of wood, Wegner often explored the limits and potential of other materials, and the CH88T is one such result.

The design was initially developed as a prototype with coloured legs, displayed at the international Helsingborg Exhibition in Sweden in 1955. Decades later, Carl Hansen & Søn brought the chair into production in 2014 to mark the centennial of Wegner's birth.

Craftsmanship & Finish

The CH88T is versatile, elegant and functional. Its stackable construction seamlessly joins wood and industrial steel, showcasing Wegner's skill in lending softness to minimalist forms. The steel frame supports an oval form-pressed veneer seat and a steam-bent solid wood backrest with elegantly upturned ends that form a natural resting place for the forearms.
